There is great support among the general public and motorists in staging Dharna against the " Highway Robbery " being indulged in at various Toll Plazas in Jalandhar and rest of Punjab.
The loot of the common motorist at the numerous ( and ever increasing ) Toll Plazas is sure to be an election issue in the forthcoming Assembly elections in Punjab.
A common man pays these levies for maintainence of roads :-
VAT on the Motor Vehicles at the time of purchase ( Excise Duty and Sales Tax )
Octroi
Road Tax
Registration Tax Road
levy on petrol
Still the Government levies back breaking highway toll taxes for "maintaining roads".
