Do Indian Laws Apply To Migratory Birds ?

A voluntary organisation dedicated to animal/ birds' welfare along with concerned Govt officials raided a house in Kishanpura, Jalandhar.. Many Indian and foreign parrots were found in small cages. These were being sold illegally.

But the ' Tota" racketeers pleaded before the raiding authorities that Indian laws regarding wild animals and animal welfare applied only to Indian species of parrots and not to migratory ( foreign) parrots !
