Sub Registrar's Office -Surprise Checking by Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar

Concerned about decline in revenue from stamp duty payable on Registration of sale deeds, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar Ajit Singh Pannu made a surprise check in the office of Sub Registrar ( Tehsildar-1) and impounded 14 Sale Deeds on suspicion of under payment of stamp duty. Investigations would be made into them.

As per the law, Deputy Commissioner is the Registrar of Registration Dept. He has powers to cancel Sale Deeds, within a specified time , inter-alia on grounds of under payment of stamp duty.
