Renowned Punjabi singer,Hans Raj Hans,who was the Akali Dal- BJP candidate from Jalandhar did well in Nakodar and Shahkot where he got a lead of 22,000 votes.
It was the sheer stature and popularity of Congress' Mohinder Singh Kaypee which enabled them to defeat Hans Raj Hans. Any other Congress candidate would have conceded this seat to Hans Raj Hans.
Kaypee's political and administrative experience in Congress organisation ( as Punjab's Congress President ) gives him a very good chance of being included in Dr. Manmohan Singh's Union Cabinet.
