Girls outshine boys in BA, BSc exams
LAHORE - The pass percentage in BA, BSc annual examination 2009 remained 27.73, as 50,849 out of the total 1,83,350 candidates were declared successful in the examination held by the Punjab University (PU).
As many as 1,07,572 female and 55,344 male students appeared in the BA examination and out of them 33,293 girls and 10,080 boys passed while around 10,022 girls and 7,977 boys took part in the BSc examination and out of them 4,509 girls and only 1,727 boys were declared successful.
All the overall top six positions, three in BSc and three in BA, were secured by girl students while none of the boys obtained any top position in both the examinations. The three top positions in BA were bagged by the external candidates.
Amna Riaz d/o Prof M Riaz Ch, Roll No 035376, of the Punjab College of Women, Civil Lines Gujranwala secured overall top position in BSc with 696 out of 800 marks. Daniah Tahir d/o Tahir Aziz, Roll No 048724, of the Federal Government College for Women F-7/2 Islamabad secured overall second position by obtaining 663 marks while Musavarah Sarwar d/o Muhammad Sarwar, Roll No 135371 of the Punjab College for Women Gujranwala clinched third position in BSc with 656 marks.
In BA, the overall top position was secured by Umme Habiba d/o Haji Muhammad Pervaiz Butt, Roll No 081374, an external candidate, by obtaining 673 marks out of the total 800. Asia Ashraf d/o Muhammad Ashraf, Roll No 065288, also an external candidate secured second position with 650 marks while Saira Laique d/o Mohammad Laique, Roll No 090525, also an external candidate bagged third position with 646 marks.
