India & Pakistan Should Co-operate- URGENTLY

Recent terrorist attack at Lahore Police Academy has violently highlighted the reality of how close the terrorists' silent army is near Indian border. These terrorists do not operate under traditional protocols and formalities ( like official declaration of war etc. )nor do they respect international borders.

Antagonism and mutual suspicion between India and Pakistan is working to the advantage of the terrorists. Indian and Pakistan's anti terror establishments should start working together. Let us drive by looking ahead and stop looking at the rear view mirror.

Another reason for greater Pakistan India co-operation in environment management. The glaciers are shrinking. We must take remedial measures. Co-operation is the need of the hour.

Capt. Kanwaljit Singh' Tragic Death in Road Accident

We deeply condole the tragic death of Punjab minister, Capt Kanwaljit Singh in a road accident near Kharar.

But apart from the utmost tragic loss of a very fine person, the accident shows how dangerous our roads are. If state minister is not safe on roads, no other user is.

Further, as a mark of grief, Punjab Govt. has declared today a holiday. While Govt. could have observed a day of mourning by having flags at half mast, this unexpected stoppage of work at Govt.offices would cause big and avoidable inconvenience to many members of the general public. Besides, today is the second last day of the current financial year. Today was indeed a very busy day for all.

Jullundur Gymkhana Club and Top District Officials

These days Jullundur Gymkhana is in the news regarding the termination notices to some member / members.

This has, also, brought to focus the role top District Officials ( IAS cadre ) like Commissioner, Jalandhar Range and Deputy Commissioner should play in the affairs of club like Jullundur Gymkhana.

Post independence ethos and values tend to indicate that there is no big general public's interest involved in these clubs which may merit the attention or involvement of elite first class IAS officers.

Further, the Club should reorient it self in the new Independent India environment. It should pay its lease in keeping with present land rates. Some part of the club land land should be allowed for free use by non members i.e. general public of Jalandhar.

Let us show that the country has, truly, become independent.

Today ( 22-03-09 ) BBC telecast a very interesting programme on the subject of help and active intervention by British High Commission in Islamabad ( Pakistan ) regarding young brides holding British citizenship who were forced to marry against their wishes.

It was very gratifying to see how British Mission helps such trapped brides in Pakistan.

We , strongly urge , Indian embassies to actively follow this British example and render all possible help to the numerous unfortunate Indian " wives " who are suffering in foreign lands because of fraudulent NRI marriages. Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India should take immediate steps in this regards.

Phillaur Fort-a National Monument

Maharaja Ranjit Singh's historic Phillaur Fort, on the bank of Sutlej river marked his eastern border ( in the west it was Attock Fort ).Presently, it houses police Training Institute.

Concerned citizens of Nurmahal have served a legal notice n Archaeological Survey of India ( ASI ) to implement the directions of Punjab & Haryana High Court and declare Phillaur Fort a national monument.
