India's longest serving cabinet minister and pride of Jalandhar ( Shankar Village ) Sardar Sawaran Singh's portrait is being unveiled on 22-012-2008 in Parliament House by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh .
Sardar Sawaran Singh was one of main of Tashkent Agreement , Shimla Agreement and the Indus Waters Treaty Agreement , all with Pakistan . His deft handling of the Indus Water Treaty resulted in India getting the share of Ravi waters.
Sardar Sawaran Singh was India's Foreign Minister from 1964 to 1966 and , again , from 1970 to 1974; Defence Minister from 1966 to 1970 and , again , from1974 to1975 President of Indian National Congress from 1977 to 1979.
Sardar Sawaran Singh was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 1992 .
