Internet- Email ' Lottery ' Frauds - Modus Operandi

Internet users in Jalandhar and elsewhere receive many emails about fraud lottery winning messages. This is the fraudsters ' procedure to cheat email users :-

HOW THE FRAUD WORKS

1 ) Fraudsters send e-mails informing that the email user has won a massive amount in some high sounding international lottery.

2 ) To claim this prize , they may ask for scanned copies of personal documents like passport etc so that it seems a genuine lottery scheme.

3 ) Soon , the fraudsters ask for an " advance " fee ( supposedly for customs , bank fees etc .)

4) Once the fees are deposited the fraudsters pocket the money and stop further communication.
