Tesae is good news for Jalandhar Cantt. Octroi ( Choong ) in Jalandhar Cantt would be abolished by this month's end.
Although Octroi had been abolished in the whole of Punjab it had continued in the Cantonments of Jalandhar and Ferozepur.
Abolition of Octroi in Jalandhar Cantt was the Poll promise of the present which is being honoured only at the fag end of the tenure.
Another glaring continuation of Octroi ( Choongi ) in Punjab is on Urban consumers of Petrol and Urban Paid consumers of Electricity. In a case of double overcharge both VAT and Octroi has been charged on Petrol whereas part of VAT was in lieu of Octroi. Urban Punjabis are deeply upset over this stark discrimination between Urban Punjabis and Rural Punjabis.
