In a complaint before Family Disputes Resolution Centre Jalandhar - Aashi , a Fraudulent NRI Marriage victim complained that her NRI Bridegroom was only interested i " TIME PASS " and has deserted her after going back. No message from him He is not responding Phone Calls
Now , the victim's " in -laws " also do not want her and are trying throw her out. The in laws are making the victims sign some papers saying that she would be divorced.

The victims have been divided , broadly , under two categories :-
1 ) Where the NRI groom has returned and disappeared in foreign land thereby deserting his wife( and children ) in India
2) Where the bride has been taken to a foreign country but is kept there against her wishes in semi slavery like conditions. In such cases the immigration papers like Passport have been impounded by the husband .
Punjab Government has estimated the number of such complaints to be 10000 ( But unofficial numbers are many times over ). Punjab Govt.'s Social Security & Women - Child Development Department ( Chandigarh ) and Union ( Central ) Govt.'s Ministry For NRI Affairs ( New Delhi ) have joined hands.
Punjab Government's Social Security & Women - Child Development Department's Deputy Director Rajnish Kumar Jasra informed that they are in the process of collecting relevant information through CDPO s at Block levels and Programme Officers at District levels.
Punjab Govt. would , also, seek the help of NGOs and Ministry of External Affairs. Initially conciliation would be attempted. Indian brides trapped abroad would be extended full legal and financial help. Alternate immigration -passport documents would be provided.
These steps taken by Punjab Govt. are very timely and essential. Fraudulent NRI marriages has emerged as one of the major social crisis affecting Punjab today. Many NRIs hunt for young Punjabi girls and show their relatives, mainly brothers and uncles , prospects of immigration for them. These relatives force the unlucky girl into NRImatrimony. Some times the groom is up to thrice the girl's age ; some times the groom is already married, at times more than once etc. Some of these grooms are on the look out for cheap household maids ( unavailable abroad ) or these NRIs are , simply , going in for another " holiday marriage " during their stay in India. Apart from the girl they get the use of free "dowry " . Once , their stay In India is over,they disappear abroad after giving their India wife false promises of calling her abroad once the immigration " papers "are cleared.

NRI Dumped Indian " Wives"- Indian Govt. Mulls Strict Laws
Deeply concerned about the plight of Indian girls who have been dumped by their NRI husbands and to provide relief to hapless Indian brides suffering helplessly in foreign lands, Govt. of India is coming out with various measures in this regard :-
The Law Commission headed by Justice AR Lakshmanan, in its 219 th report has proposed :-
1) Compulsory registration of marriage where one of the spouses is a NRI.
2) Submission of these Marriage documents to the relevant Embassy in India of the country where NRI resides.
3) Creation of Fast Track courts in India to try NRI matrimonial / succession cases.
4) Uniform law regarding the adoption of Indian children by NRIs and simplification of inter country child adoption procedures.
5) Amendment of the Marriage Laws to provide for maintenance , alimony etc, for Indian brides.
Union Ministry of Women and Child Development and Union Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs has , further, recommended that there should be a special mention of the Marriage details ( including Registration ) on the Passports and no visa should be given in the absence of these details.
National Commission for Women 's chairperson , Girija Vyas has expressed deep concern at the plight of many Indian brides trapped in fraudulent NRI marriages.
The implementation of these measures would prevent NRIs from entering in to fraudulent marriages. Some NRIs go in for a "holiday marriage " while visiting India. Dowry is an additional free gift apart from the girl.Then these NRIs return leaving their " wives " with fake promises of calling them later. These dumped wives have no financial resources and are many a time pregnant or with children.
Many NRIs go in for multiple marriages to have a free domestic help in foreign lands where maids are unavailable. There have been reports of Indian brides being forced o take up hazardous jobs to provide for the NRI groom's family. There is widespread domestic violence and sexual abuse within and out side the family. All this goes unreported as Indian brides are pliant, their parents financially weak and lack of knowledge of local language and laws.
It is strongly recommended that Indian embassies should extend all help to such unfortunate Indian brides.

Fraudulent NRI Marriages- Unsrupulous Agents-8000 Punjabi Girls Forced In to Prostitution Abroad
Many NRI ( Non Resident Indian ) "grooms" indulge in multiple marriages. They take another "wife " either for taking a cheap maid servant abroad for doing household chores or for forcing the hapless girls in to hazardous jobs abroad.
Many NRI marriages are a mere cover for human trafficking.
The president of Lok Bhalai Party and former MP Balwant Singh Ramoowalia , a a Press Conference in Jalandhar , revealed another shocking aspect involving innocent young Punjabi girls ; NRI " grooms " and unscrupulous travel agents enticing girls and once taken abroad are made " Sex Slaves ".
According to Ramoowalia over 8000 Punjabi girls have been forced in to prostitution in foreign lands.

Fraudulent NRI Marriages- BS Ramoowalia Proposes a Proforma
We strongly urge , both the Central and State Governments to make the filling of the Proforma as prepared by Balwant Singh Ramoowalia of Lok Bhalai Party , mandatory for every prospective NRI bridegroom.
Many NRI " grooms" merrily indulge in " holiday marriages " / 'marriage of convenience " for free dowry and free sex . They dump these hapless girls after some time.
God bless Balwant Singh Ramoowalia for his untiring efforts to bring to justice the criminal " grooms".

Canada Based NRI - Arranges 3 Simultaneous Marriages - Ramoowalia Rescues Victims
God Bless Balwant Singh Ramoowalia , President Lok Bhalai Party. At a Press Conference in Jalandhar money taken by fraud was returned to the victims.
A Canada based Non Resident Indian ( NRI ) had arranged for 3 marriages. Dowries ranging from Rs. 5 lakh INR to Rs. 32 lakh were agreed upon.
The Fraudulent Groom enticed the victims by dangling before the family members of the hapless " brides " the prospects of immigration for girls relatives. Such offers make the selfish relatives force the girl to accept these fraudulent NRI marriages.

Fraudulent NRI Marriages- UK Govt Planning Legislation to Help to Victims.
Jalandhar born Mr. Virendra Sharma who is a sitting British MP for Ealing, Southall was on a visit to his birth place. He expressed his deep concern on the plight of the young Punjabi brides who have been trapped in fraudulent NRI marriages.
Mr. Sharma has advised parents of the prospective bride to do a background check on every foreign based bride groom. He said because of their culture and values Indian brides do not report domestic violence . In UK a anti Dowry Act is in the pipeline and there are many existing provisions against spousal violence and torture.He said girls in UK should be made aware of the legal support system.Mr. Sharma has also approached the Indian High Commission in Britain to extend maximum support to such victims. Indian High Commission's response has been " encouraging ."

" Forced Marriages "-- BBC Serial & Fraudulent NRI Marriages
Today ( 22-03-09 ) BBC telecast a very interesting programme on the subject of help and active intervention by British High Commission in Islamabad ( Pakistan ) regarding young brides holding British citizenship who were forced to marry against their wishes.
It was very gratifying to see how British Mission helps such trapped brides in Pakistan.
We , strongly urge , Indian embassies to actively follow this British example and render all possible help to the numerous unfortunate Indian " wives " who are suffering in foreign lands because of fraudulent NRI marriages. Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India should take immediate steps in this regards.

Fraudulent NRI Marriages- National Level Seminar in Jalandhar on 30-05-12
A National Level Seminar on Overseas And Fraudulent NRI Marriages would be held on 30-05-12 at Haveli Heritage Jalandhar.
The Seminar would be inaugurated by MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
Deputy CM Punjab , Sukhbir Singh Badal would inaugurate a Helpline Service for the Victims of Fraudulent NRI Marriages.
Minister for NRI Affairs Bikramjit Majithia would chair the proceedings .

72 Yr Old NRI files Compaint against 30 Yr " Second " Wife
It has been reported in today's newspapers that a 72 year old NRI of Goraya ( Jalandhar ) has filed a complaint with the police that his second wife in India who is 30 years old has decamped with a sizable cash, jewellery etc.He seeks police help to recover the same.
While the act of theft by this "wife" is condemnable what strikes the mind is the bizarre match these two have been. While every where wealth and position has enabled men to exploit young girls, what is amazing in some of the NRI cases is the open brazenness with which NRI commit these fraudulent marriages.
