Damaged Sutlej Bridge -Phillaur - Child Killed- Why Toll Tax Then ??

It is the most cruel exploitation that  whereas Crores are being collected daily from ordinary motorist at Phillaur Sutlej Bridge Toll Tax Barrier but the Sutlej Bridge ( Older Bridge- Jalandhar- Ludhiana Direction ) has not been repaired.

This has cost the life of a child who fell into the River from the damaged pavement.

The pavement was not repaired by the Toll Collecting authorities.

It means that the authorities are only interested in collecting exorbitant Tolls from Non VIP motorists.

But the amount is not spent on repairs of the Bridge.

In Independent India there are no VIP Indians or Non VIP Indians but only one Category i.e. INDIANS.

No where is this pernicious Cult of VIP ism more in play  than at Toll Tax Plazas where they have a separate VIP Passage where so called the privileged take a QUICK AND FREE passage where as the under privileged are made to wait and pay.

Vehicle users travelling between Jalandhar and Ludhiana, especially users of Jalandhar are extremely upset over the massive rise in the Toll Tax rates being levied at Sutlej Bridge on the G.T. Road, at Phillaur ( Jalandhar ). Ostensibly this is to raise finances for lane expansion. But a vehicle user already pays the following dues ( all under the garb of road construction / maintenance ):-

(1 ) VAT ( central exice, State Sales Tax etc ) on vehicles

( 2 ) Octroi ( is some states )

( 3 ) Road Tax at the time of Registration ( 10- 15 years , in advance )

( 4 ) Road tax cess on petrol / diesel

Still, Govt. levies massive Toll Tax on ordinary Non-VIP Indians. 

People ask the following questions:-

Why are so called "VIPs" exempted ?

Child Death at Sutlej Bridge GT Road Phillaur- Give One Day Toll Collection as Compensation

There has been a demand that that Toll Plaza Authorities should give One Day 's Collection or Rs. 1 crore as compensation to the bereaved family of the  child who fell into the Sutlej River at Phillaur ( Jalandhar - Ludhiana GT Road ) .

The Toll Plaza authorities did not repair the pavement on the Older of the Twin Bridges.

Massive  staff force is deployed by the Toll Plaza to collect Toll from Non VIP motorists( including Physically Handicapped Motorists ). VIP s are given Free Super Passage.

The Toll Tax Plaza at Phillaur ( Jalandhar - Ludhiana ) has imposed massive charges ( Rs. 102 - One Side Same Charges for a BMW and a small Nano Car ).

Phillaur (Jalandhar - Ludhiana GT Road Toll- Increased Again )

In a move which adds insult to injury the road toll tax at Sutlej bridge at GT Road Phillaur has , again been hiked from 31-08-09.

This is the second increase this year. Already the rates were very high. Instead of decreasing the toll has been increased.

Politicians and bureaucrats do not pay any toll . Entire burden of this toll falls on common non-VIP public.

Give Relief on Back Breaking Road Toll Taxes

A single trip in car from Jalandhar to Ludhiana costs around Rs. 85 at the Phillaur ( Sutlej Bridge ) Toll Tax Plaza. The biggest irony is that this exorbitant sum is the same for a small Maruti 800 / Nano car and a Rs. 15 Lakh+ SUV !. Besides, any one who shows an aggressive posture , like blowing a hooter or  beaming a beacon , not only gets through free BUT IS  GIVEN PRIORITY THROUGH A VIP PASSAGE .

Middle class urban Punjabi is already reeling under heavy price rises . He should , immediately , be given relief in Government taxes. Let the Govt. begin by rationalising and decreasing the Back breaking Road Toll Taxes

Ladhowal ( Phillaur )Toll Plaza- Protests Demanding its Closure

Dharna would continued to held at Ladhowal Toll Plaza at Phillaur ( Distt. Jalandhar ) on the Jalandhar- Luudhiana GT Road -Sutlej Bridge.

GT Road Toll Tax Rates to Rise By 10 % w.e.f. 01-09-11

Motorists in Jalandhar and elsewhere were expecting relief especially exemption for Maruti 800 , Nano cars and physically handicapped persons.

Instead GT Road Highway Toll Plazas at Sutlej Bridge ( Phillaur ) , Shambhu , Karnal are going to increase across the board ( no relief ) by 10 % e.e.f. 01-09-11 .

Provide Ambulances and Trauma Vans On the Jalandhar - Nakodar- Jagraon Highway

The bus accident near Lambra ( Jalandhar ) which led to the tragic death of two CT Institute students has , again, shown that Jalandhar- Nakodar- Jagraon highway is very accident prone.

After the construction of the high level bridge on Sutlej at village Sangewal between Jagraon and Nakodar, the entire highway between Jalandhar- Nakodar- Jagraon has increased manifold . As this road is is merely two lane and with so many villages en route, it has become very accident prone.

Nakodar Jagraon section is , now a toll road . The toll contractors M/s Rajdeep are providing ambulance services and trauma vans. But Jalandhar- Nakodar section, which is the most accident prone road is without this facility. Ambulance services should be , immediately , arranged here.

Traffic Problems in Jalandhar- Expedite Construction of Khalsa College Flyover

With the closure of Railway Crossing ( Phatak ) and diversion of traffic by Ladowali Road, motorists in Jalandhar are facing enormous difficulty.

For a couple of days Jalandhar Cantt- Hoshairpaur Road ( Rama Mandi Chowk ) would be under going repair work.

The Railway Over bridge construction  near Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar should be completed on a urgent basis.

Motorists feel when they are paying through their noses very heavy toll taxes ( Rs.82 for a single passing at Sutlej Bridge at Phillaur ) why are road projects being delayed.

They are demanding that the detailed accounts  of collection at Toll Plazas ( especially at Phillaur be made public) so that they can be assured that their hard earned money is being used properly.
